Creating Positive Momentum
We are always moving toward something, but too often we don’t take time to recognize the things we are moving towards.
Take today for instance, what are the activities you’re going to dedicate yourself to?
Are these areas that will take you into your dreams, aspirations, and help you accomplish your greatest goals?
I’ve found through reflecting back in my life that there have been long periods of time where I wasn’t conscious of the direction I was taking my experience. I failed to recognize the momentum I was creating.
These were times when I was working at a job I despised, times when I was browsing the internet with no purpose, times when I would turn on the TV instead of working on my dreams and times when I would be quick to help another person but never jumped to help myself.
One thing is apparent, the things we dedicate ourselves to on any given day will help create the life we will experience in the days, weeks, months and years to come.
I encourage you to stop for a moment and check your motives. Identify the areas in your life that are building momentum.
Are these areas good or bad? Positive or negative? Do they bring you joy or pain?
I began my speaking business a few months back and one thing that has helped me more than anything else is creating positive momentum that acts as fuel to propel me toward my dream of empowering and inspiring millions.
We all have momentum moving toward something, the question is, are you propelling yourself in a direction that is calling out to you from within?
Or are you lost without a rudder?
Lost Without a Rudder
Imagine being out in the middle of a rough ocean in a small boat without a rudder and a sail. This little boat you are in is being tossed and turned by the rough waves and heavy winds that surround you.
Lost without a direction and no momentum to pull you forward, this boat you are on goes wherever the wind and waves take it.
This small boat without a rudder is similar to how many people live their day to day lives; no specific direction, they wake up each morning and are pulled by the world around them.
With no goal in mind they are lost without a rudder, failing to recognize that even in this act of unknowing they are creating momentum for being lost.
To ensure you’re not one of those boats lost at sea without a rudder, I encourage you to look within and identify the directions in which you are taking your day to day experience.
You are the captain of your boat of life.
Identify Your Direction
I encourage you to grab a piece of paper, or pull up a word doc and write down what you are moving towards in your daily life.
Looking deeper, you will see that the areas you’ve dedicated yourself to, even the unconscious motives filling your day, are taking you somewhere.
The house you live in, the balance in your bank account, the relationships around you and the quality of your inner life is a direct reflection of the areas you’ve dedicated yourself toward.
After you’ve spent some time looking at the things you’ve dedicated yourself to in the days of the past, now spend time identifying the places you’d like to go in the days to come.
Open your mind and write down your greatest dreams, goals and aspirations. Watch as you more fully realize the same energy you’ve used to take you to where you are today can now be used in an intentional and conscious way to take you into your dreams.
Dedicate yourself to the conscious mission. Create positive momentum to make your dreams become a reality.
3 Keys to Creating Positive Momentum
#1 – Get Clear – Get clear on how you want to spend your precious life and finite time upon this planet. Take time to write out your list of important goals and dreams. As Stephen Covey said in his book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, “begin with the end in mind.” I’d like to add, after seeing the end within, dedicate yourself to conscious and positive momentum to carry you toward this inner realization.
#2 – Little Steps – Often when we identify our true dreams and goals, we suddenly get overwhelmed with the distance that separates us from those dreams. When this happens, as it often does, remember that you can travel great distances with conscious and dedicated little steps. Just think of all the little steps you’ve made throughout the days of yesterday that have brought you to this present moment you find yourself in today.
#3 – Success Formula – Many of us will over-emphasize our failures and pitfalls of the past, completely unaware of all the small successes that have been a part of our life as well. When building positive momentum toward your dreams and unique goals, focus upon your successes in the past, no matter how small. Focus on these successes more than you focus upon your failures.
Positive Momentum
With positive momentum, there is nothing you cannot do. Remember, we are always moving towards something, even if we are unaware of what that is.
Realizing this, it is a great opportunity for you and I to move towards a conscious goal.
There is a great book I recommend you check out called The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. This book dives into our ability to build success upon success by doing the little things right each day.
Great things await you my friend, make it happen today.
