How to Build Positive Self Talk

Building Up or Breaking Down

There’s an important conversation taking place.

A conversation that can propel us forward into new areas of life or place a ceiling on our limits and possibilities.

These conversations can go on for hours, days and weeks, some even last years.

This conversation isn’t taking place between two business executives in a board room or between the presidents of nations.

The most important conversation is taking place within ourselves.

Inner Dialogue

Most of us probably don’t even recognize the conversations (self-talk) taking place within our being. I catch myself at times, fully unaware of the thoughts that I, the thinker, am allowing to flow through my consciousness.

Catching myself in a heated conversation of doubt, or worse, sabotaging my dreams because of an unexpected fear that has yet to occur.

Catching ourselves is key.

As we become aware of this conversation taking place within, we have an opportunity to change it, or better yet, create a new one.

Words, especially our self-talk, can cut, heal, destroy or build.

Self-talk should speak honestly, truthfully and compassionately. In such a way that you’re inspired, empowered and grateful for this experience of life.

Creating A New Conversation

Those of us who are looking to create a greater conversation within, a more empowering self-talk, there are a few essential things we can do.

The most essential of these things is to remind yourself, truly remind yourself, that you are the thinker.

When we can wrap our minds around this idea, we can see we’re always telling ourselves something. Unfortunately, most of us don’t know what it is we’re speaking to ourselves while still hoping to create a more fulfilling life. Opposing thoughts and negative self-talk can keep us stuck in stagnant positions, though we desperately wish to see a change.

There’s a solution to this madness. We, the thinkers, can start thinking and telling ourselves something different.

Using this positive self-talk to highlight:

  • Our strengths and gifts
  • Remind ourselves of our accomplishments
  • Expose ourselves to a greater vision
  • Explore the pathway to the greatest I

As our self-talk becomes more empowering, our perspective begins to reflect a similar light.

As our thoughts change, our life changes.

No harm can be done by beginning to use your self-talk in a way that can empower and inspire you into a greater version of yourself.

Quality of Our Self-Talk

Each of us speak to ourselves based upon what we believe to be true about ourselves.

For instance, a person who is discouraged about their current situation in life with lack of funds and ill health is likely to engage in much different self-talk than one who fully believes in their gifts and ability to create a life that they enjoy.

To improve our self-talk, we must begin with the way we see ourselves by getting away from the temporary illusions of our lives and refocusing on the true qualities of our being.

A few of those truthful qualities are:

  • I am Life, empowered by Life
  • I am the thinker
  • I co-create my experience based on thoughts, choices, actions, emotions and feelings
  • I am connected to All, what can I not do
  • I am here for but a moment, each moment is valuable

The Power of Positive Self-Talk

Being that we’re always feeding our subconscious mind with thoughts, ideas, beliefs and self-talk, our subconscious mind becomes the underlying foundation from which our conscious choices blossom.

This explains why we choose the same things over and over again, even if we know we shouldn’t choose them.  We’ve fed that belief or idea to our subconscious so much that it becomes our “way of life.”

In other words, your self-talk, your thoughts, your choices and beliefs create the you that you believe you are. However, you are not the story you tell to yourself. You are Life beneath those inner dialogues. Unbound and limitless.

Positive self-talk can create the basic building blocks for transforming our subconscious mind. The more we fill our subconscious up with empowering ideas centered on truthful thoughts, the more of that we’ll find within ourselves.

Once we reach that tipping point into positive self-talk, our choices, actions and life will begin to shine in a new light.

3 Key Ways To Powerful Self-Talk

#1 – Building A Truthful Foundation – You are the thinker. All thinkers are empowered by Life Itself. Therefore, all that you think goes into assembling your experience. The best way to build a truthful foundation is to speak truthfully to yourself while allowing truthful thoughts to flow through your mind.

*Very Important – Truthful thoughts are those things that are inclusive to all, not dogmas and traditions.

#2 – Replace Stinking Thinking – Work on your awareness. You do this by immediately catching negative, false thoughts and beliefs the moment they surface in your mind. Whenever you catch these hurtful, self-debilitating thoughts, replace them consciously with empowered ideas centered on truth.

Would you allow garbage, trash and unwanted food to collect on the bed in which you sleep?

Why is it that so many of us allow this garbage to marinate in our consciousness?

#3 – Speak Kindly – You are the most important being in your life. Without you, you have nothing. Therefore, speak to yourself about all that you’re great at, all the reasons why you can accomplish what you set out to do and don’t forget to ask empowering questions. As my Grandma told me, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” I’d like to add, if you don’t have anything nice to say about yourself, then intentionally fill your mind with all the things you have in your life that you can be grateful for.
