Reflecting Back
It’s always inspiring to look back through history and find a person or people who fully stood up for the greater good of mankind. It’s inspiring to see someone stand up for what they believe in.
Many of the stories we hear of speak about how one confidently stood amidst adversity, how one tapped into their inner Essence in order to live for something greater than themselves.
Looking back through ancient history we see stories of Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.
In our more recent history we hear of figures such as Booker T. Washington, Harriet Tubman, Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
This is a small list of people who the majority of us know. It’s incredible to think about the countless other figures throughout history that we’ll never hear of, but who stood for Truth, Love and Compassion. Either forgotten in our minds, lost in time, or their legacies were never taught to us.
Retracing the steps of these individuals who we’ve all heard of, it is easy for us to see the different things they went through. Many faced persecution, criticism, racism, hatred and death in order to become the historical or religious figures that we look up to and worship today.
What Makes These People & Prophets Great
To avoid any specific debates on who the greatest prophet may be, I would like to highlight someone we’ve all heard of, Martin Luther King Jr.
When I first moved down here to Atlanta, I remember feeling a certain type of energy when I would drive through the city.
I thought about the roots that run through this sacred soil.
Previous to the colonization of America, the Cherokee Native Americans had one of the most sophisticated native communities right here in Georgia.
If you remain present, you can recognize and feel all that has gone into this earth we live on. Your inner ears have no boundary of time if you truly listen.
When the colonization of America began, the roots of slavery here in Georgia (the 4th state) started to grow. The roots ran deep. (Willie Lynch Teaching)
Young Martin Luther King Jr. walked upon these same streets and quite possibly felt this same energy I speak of.
The story tells us that this young man saw something greater. He saw that within all of us is Life, and he knew that if the Life in us appreciates and values the Life in another, Love blossoms effortlessly.
Foundation of Truth
He believed this so much that he chose to Love those who hated, threatened and persecuted him, learning from those ancient Prophets who said:
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you… Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” -Jesus
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” -Buddha
“To overcome evil with good is good, to resist evil by evil is evil.” -Muhammad
“He alone sees truly who sees the Lord the same in every creature…seeing the same Lord everywhere, he does not harm himself or others.” -Krishna quote
MLK Jr. stood for this same Love, truth and compassion.
Despite people’s greatest attempts to cover the Light that shone through this man and even with the passing of his body, the Love, truth and compassion he stood for remains with us to this day.
Look not out into the world, rather inside yourself to see this Love.
Are We Able To Do This?
Are we able to be as great as the “Greats” throughout history?
Of course.
Though we will probably never walk on water, split the red sea or lead a million man march, the potential of these things exists in the Life that awakes each and every one of us.
There is no limit to our potential.
As we begin to look deeper into these historical and religious figures, we can see that the truth they speak of is the Life which is ever present.
This Life that is in us.
This Life that is in all things.
We are from the same Source, the same Essence, the same God which empowered the “Greats.”
We have that same power within us.
How can more Life be in you than in me?
Are we not of the same Source?
Are not all the people who walked on this planet, whether prophets or not, from this One Source?
How Do We Become Great?
The more we recognize the Truth which we are, the Truth which everyone is, the sooner we realize we are already Great.
Look at your life and all the things you’ve created.
Did you not bring these things towards you?
Whether it’s a house, a job, a degree, or bills?
As we embrace our natural ability to co-create our experience, we understand that we can use that same Source that Jesus, MLK Jr., and Buddha, used to direct our lives for something greater than ourselves.
It is obvious to see that not everyone lives with the same intent that MLK Jr. lived with, but it is more than obvious to see that the potential of all these things rests within this Life that dwells within you and me.
Recognizing Your Inherent Greatness
There are many ways to begin to honor this Greatness that dwells in the innermost chambers of our being.
Here are 3 Keys that will help unlock the doors of greatness:
1- See, Know, Feel – The *Essence of Life which resides in you. Know that the same Life that rests in you also, aligns the planets, creates galaxies and has given Life to all the prophets and historical figures throughout time. Feel and know that this same Essence of Life is within you.
2- Co-Creating – Seek to see the ways that you have worked in perfect alignment with the Life within you to create the “world” which you live. Once you see this, seek to see the ways that the prophets and the “Great’s” throughout time used that same Life to co-create their world. Understand that you are working with the same Source.
3- Honor Your Essence – Respect the Life within you. Respect the Life within others. Respect the Life within all things. Know that the Life which awakes and empowers you, dwells in everything. Live with Love.
*Feel free to replace word with God, Love, Life, Allah, Jah, Universe, Energy, Infinite Intelligence or Source.
Thoughts
We are all unique individuals, with individual minds and individual beliefs, so I understand if this doesn’t resonate with you.
My intention is not to disprove, disrespect, or dishonor anyone’s beliefs, rather to show you the way that I’ve come to see the world.
To see the Source which lies in all.
Reminding you, reminding me, that we are all from the same Source, the same Life.
It is my hope that our thoughts, choices, and decisions are in alignment with the inner Essence which supports us all.
What do you think?
Does the same Essence which dwelled in Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, Krishna, MLK Jr., and Gandhi dwell in you?
Why or why not?
