Gratitude Post 15: Three Keys of Gratitude
On the fourth Wednesday of every month I enjoy finding time to express one of the many things for which I am grateful.
In the past I’ve discussed the year 1963, the power of 2400 East in Salt Lake City, the inspiration found at Highline Community College and my thankfulness for you.
Today I would like to share 3 things I believe we should all be grateful for. In fact, these 3 things are the basis of Three Key Life. We all have these and how we use them can create innumerable opportunities for one and constant curses for another.
What I am speaking of is Spirit, Mind and Body.
Gratitude for the Spirit
Not everyone believes in a God in the sky, ruling down mercifully upon the billions of humans scurrying across this planet.
However, a large majority of people, 4.6 billion roughly, look up in the sky at night and pray to a higher power.
I am not interested in “saving” you from anything or to point out all the reasons you should believe in this or believe in that. Instead, I’d like to highlight one thing we all share regardless of race, religion, occupation, location, age and gender.
Life.
Each morning we are awakened by Life. This Essence of Life is the power which enables our hearts to beat, assisting the blood to flow throughout our body. This Essence of Life is the force which empowers the trillions of atoms composing our cells and it is the same Essence of Life that is dividing our cells in this present moment.
I refer to this Essence of Life as Spirit here at Three Key Life. Spirit is within each and everyone of us. It is the invisible power which cannot be moved. It is the Essence, the Energy that all use without even knowing they are using it.
It connects us all. It is Life.
For this Life, this Spirit that fills all, find gratitude.
Gratitude for the Mind
We live our entire life within our individual conscious mind. Now by this I don’t mean we are stuck in our heads, never moving in the physical world. What I mean is that regardless of where we go upon our planet, we are looking at our world from the inside out.
A deeper reflection will help us understand that the same mind we use to view the world is the same mind we use to find opportunities and/or problems. Our mind can be our greatest asset or become our greatest enemy; either way the amount of energy exerted is the same.
I’d like to encourage you to spend some time today and be aware of the activity in your mind. Do your best to be aware of the direction your thoughts travel. For instance, are you thinking negatively most of the time or are you thinking more on the positive and optimistic side of things.
The mind is impersonal, what we think into it, whether good or bad, will become apparent in our reality. After all, it is hard to produce a positive life with a negative mind, just as it is nearly impossible to be stuck in perpetual fear, worry and overwhelm with a mind centered on the positive side of life.
Remember, you are the thinker. Be grateful for your ability to think one thought over another. As William James said, “this is our greatest asset”.
Gratitude for the Body
Many of us fail to recognize how magnificent the human body is until something isn’t functioning right.
Those of us who can jump up from bed, run around the block, hike up a mountain, gaze at a beautiful sunset, speak with clarity, have hands and legs that function, lungs that breathe, a heart that beats with regularity, veins that act as roadways transporting vital materials to our body, and all the other innumerable things that take place in our body to help us be alive in this present moment of now, should be filled with endless gratitude.
Our body is one of the greatest temples on this planet.
Take time each day to show gratitude to your body. This can be done through exercise, stillness, meditation, healthy eating and remaining in the present moment.
There will come a time when we wish we could reverse the hands of time and again be the being we are today.
Carry gratitude with you from this day forward.
Gratitude for the Trinity
The trinity in which I speak is not the father, son and holy ghost. The trinity in which I speak is the trinity contained within all.
Spirit —-> Mind —–> Body
Every human being upon this earth, every human being throughout the past and into the future will have these 3 Keys:
- A spirit which empowers them to wake up each morning
- A mind to think, make choices and commit to actions
- A body in which this experience of life is lived
Gratitude
The next time you are feeling down, upset and things just aren’t going right, pause for a moment and remember these Three Keys of Life.
When we dwell from this state of awareness we see that our entire life upon this earth is filled with something to be grateful for.
