Being Present: The Greatest Gift for the Holiday

Giving the Present of Being Present

With the holiday season upon us, I’ve been thinking what the greatest present I could give would be.

In the past, I would head to the mall to purchase toys, perfumes, clothes and gift cards, hoping to capture in a tangible gift, the love, appreciation and care I had for the people close to me.

I always enjoy watching my family members’ faces light up when they unwrap their gifts. This year however, I think I’m going to do something a little different.

Though I will still give out a few gifts to my family and friends, I think I’ve found a gift we can give that’s fairly inexpensive. This gift will not only bring a smile to the ones we love, but it will bring a smile to our lips as well.

This gift is Being Present.

Being Present

Yes, being present is the gift I encourage you to give throughout this holiday season and beyond.

By this I don’t mean sitting on the couch at your mother’s house during the holidays or making an appearance at the in-laws’ place.

What I mean is being fully present. Acknowledging that during this time of year, you have the opportunity to be surrounded by people who care about you.

Even if you venture to hostile family environments, move with the awareness of being present. Take time to notice the smells in the air, the smiles in the room and be aware of the hugs you give and receive with those close to you.

By being present we have the ability to take ourselves out of the thoughts of the past or expectations for the future and center our entire being on this moment that sustains us all.

Giving the gift of being present will not just empower you to appreciate the people and environments you find yourself in throughout the holidays, but it will provide you with an incredible gift that can only be found in this moment.

Unwrapping the Moment

As we consciously give this gift to others, we begin unwrapping this moment. Inside, you and I will find a priceless gem wherein the preciousness of life can be found.

The preciousness that can be found by us all is made up of acceptance, gratitude, love, appreciation, unity, oneness, joy, harmony and order.

If you find yourself around negative people or individuals that you don’t get along with this holiday season, look deeper and connect with them in this present moment.

When we fully unwrap this moment and embrace it for that which it is, we can witness a perfect peace that is ever present.

Be here now.

Embrace the life you’re able to live and the people you’re able to be around. Acknowledge the deep roots that run through you and empower your life to be.

Feel the gratitude, be present and embrace this precious moment, this sacred time.

3 Key Ways to Make the Most Out of the Holidays

#1 – Be, Here, Now – Wherever you find yourself this holiday season and beyond, do your best to consciously remind yourself that this moment will never come this way again.  Wherever you find yourself, give the best of yourself. Don’t let negativity, hurtful thoughts, or pent up emotions steal the preciousness of this moment away from you. Be present and unwrap the beauty of this moment.

#2 – Love, Care, Appreciation – Before you venture to holiday parties, gatherings or any other festivities, take a moment to discover love, care and appreciation within. As you enter into various environments, share all the love, care and appreciation you’ve found within yourself with those around you. Be sure to let the people you care for and love know that you truly appreciate them. You never know when our time is up in this experience of life, so we should do our best to embrace and share our love in this moment of now.

#3 – Cherish the Opportunities – Be thankful that you have people who love you and places to visit this holiday season. If you don’t get to see family and friends back home this year or you find yourself in a place where you don’t know anyone, take a moment and simply be grateful that you’re able to experience this gift of life. Cherish this incredible opportunity of today and share its’ innumerable blessings with the world.

Gratitude

I am grateful that I can give the gift of being present to the world around me.

I am grateful that this moment of now connects us together with one another.

Happy holiday my friends.
