Honoring the Darkness: Becoming the Light

It is quite incredible when we give ourselves permission to pause, make still our being, focus on our breathing, close our eyes and find stillness.

As our eyes close to the outer world, darkness fills our consciousness as beams of thought bounce through our sacred sanctuary of the mind.

I was sitting in a peaceful meditation a few days ago, embracing the preciousness of simply sitting with my eyes closed to the outside world and I was inspired by the darkness.

I don’t mean darkness as in dark magic, a “devil”, or dark thoughts, but my consciousness was open to the importance of the dark, the stillness, the calm, the seeming nothingness that is all around us.

As I continued to explore this thought I realized the darkness is the source from which all things are birthed. Darkness precedes all light, in fact without the dark, light would have no meaning.

When looking at our incredible universe from a conscious space, we see that all stars, planets, and galaxies are birthed out of the infinite darkness filling the universe. All elements, minerals, gases, atoms and energy are brought to life through the darkness that existed before all else.

When we look with this deep awareness at a small seed that is sown in the darkness of the soil, fully encased in a shell that blocks out all light, we see that the biggest trees, all fruits, veggies and plants are first immersed in darkness before they begin to grow, develop and prosper. In the darkness, the seed embraces its inherent greatness.

As we begin to look at our own lives we see that we spent the first 9 months of our existence in the darkness of our mother’s womb. We grew and developed in this constant darkness until it was time for us to be birthed into the light. In the darkness of our mother’s womb, we were created.

If we look at our body temples with this deep sense of awareness we recognize that our organs, cells and atoms dwell in the darkness. They continue to grow, shift and transform through the ever-present darkness of our body.

Even the way that we tell time, we begin at midnight, in the darkest hour. From this hour, our clocks begin and sun provides light only after surrendering to the darkness.

When we look at the development of human beings we see that the first humans came from our ancestral home of Africa. Our ancient ancestors skin painted black by the sun.

You see, it is the darkness that is the source of light. In the darkness all things are birthed, including the light we all seek. In the darkness, light is found.

Tapping Into Source

I would like to encourage you to pause often and center yourself in the stillness of your being.

As you do this, open your conscious mind to the peaceful calm, the abundant darkness from which all things flow.

Do yourself the favor of eliminating negative ideas of darkness and begin understanding that the brightest of lights, including yourself, is brought into existence through the darkness that is ever-present.

Finding peace in the darkness helps you remember that you are the light. It also helps as you develop your meditation practice

Finding the Light

Some people may think that what I am saying is a bunch on nonsense. Others may not understand how they can find the light through embracing the dark.

For those who may have these questions or concerns, I’d like to invite you to practice being the light in your individual life by finding peace in the darkness that dwells within you.

You begin to see just how bright you can shine as you find this ceaseless river of peace that flows from the depths of your being, recognizing that the spring of this abundant river dwells at the deepest part of your being.

You then can open your awareness to the realization that all your thoughts, dreams, ideas, and insights blossom from this sacred, dark, and rich soil that dwells deeper than your soul.

From this sacred dark soil, all things grow.

3 Keys To Finding Light in the Darkness

#1 – All Light Flows From The Dark – Even in the darkness, light is still there, for darkness must first exist in order for light to have its illumination. Therefore, fear not the unknown, fear not the dark, for one must embrace the darkness found in all to fully appreciate their light.

#2 – Find Light At The Center – Deep moments of stillness, immersed in the darkness of your being can help you recognize the light in all things. You can begin to see the importance of the darkness of a mother’s womb, the power of the darkness found in the universe and the abundant life and light found in the depths of your being. Remember, if you can’t find the light right where you are, where do you expect to find it?

#3 – See Light In All – Choose to look deeper and honor the light shining within all people, even if you sense some negativity flowing from them, honor your ability to see the light. For life is light but all life flows from the dark, for in the dark life is created.
