Overcoming Overwhelming Mornings

It happened again today. I was planning on rising well before the sun, getting some running in, a little meditation and journaling, followed up with a well structured plan for the day.

But instead, I managed to talk my half-awake mind into pushing the snooze button a few times, finally rolling out of bed at 7:15 a.m. To some this may sound early, but this was exactly 2 hours and 15 minutes after my initial alarm.

In the past when I would wake up this late I’d stumble out of bed feeling like my day was ruined. In fact, I would probably reach some conclusion that because today was Monday and I didn’t wake up at my planned time, my entire week was shot.

If you’ve ever had these overwhelming feelings flow through your mind as soon as the alarm clock rings, this is for you.

I’ve found some balance to these late, overwhelming mornings that plague us all.

Identifying What Can Empower or Ruin A Morning

When these overwhelming mornings reach our doorstep and we awaken with a scrambled mind, rushing through our house to make sure we have everything before bolting out of the door we must remember the one thing that can empower or ruin our mornings.

That is, YOU.

You can feed into the frustration and feeling of being overwhelmed, or you can do the best you can to make the day the best it can be.

There is no reason to carry burden-filled thoughts and ideas of being overwhelmed from the early morning with you throughout your day, or worse, your week.

The next time you wake up late or find yourself rushing through the house like a maniac before you head out for your day, stop for a moment.

Remember, You have a choice to let this dictate the course of your day or you can Intentionally Empower yourself.

You are the key ingredient to setting your day up for abundance and beauty or stress and feeling overwhelmed.

Use the 3 Keys below to empower yourself next time you feel like a morning, day, week, or opportunity is ruined.

3 Keys to Overcome Overwhelming Mornings

#1 – Think – It’s important to recognize that happiness, joy, peace and success is always within reach by means of our thoughts. When you are having a crappy day filled with burdens and stress, remember that your thoughts intensify and fuel the feelings at the forefront of your consciousness. By redirecting those thoughts from feeling overwhelmed and hopeless towards strength, power and possibilities, everything shifts. Both within and without.

Start small by recognizing that you are breathing your breath. This can be all you need to remember that you can fuel new thoughts and make a new choice this moment.

#2 – Act – We act in accordance to the thoughts we have flowing through our minds. If we are stressed, frustrated or overwhelmed, our actions will reflect these things. Next time you are having a difficult morning, change the way you see yourself and your day. Allow your actions to reflect what you’d like to see blossom instead of reacting to what you think is blossoming.

Remember, you are causing the effects you will experience throughout your day.

#3 – Grow – The most powerful thing I’ve discovered about these late rising, overwhelming mornings is that these experiences provide me with the opportunity to grow into a better me. I’ve found that stress, frustration and feelings of being overwhelmed seem to present themselves when I have an area in my life I am supposed to flourish and thrive in, not just survive in.

Use the pains in your life and stress of the mornings to fuel your development into the greatest you.

Morning Hacks

Here are 3 quick tricks I’ve found to help me directly address my late morning epidemic:

  • Move my alarm clock across the room
  • Structure my day the night before so I wake up knowing my purpose for the day
  • Do jumping jacks or push-ups immediately after waking up

Key Takeaway

Don’t let the overwhelming mornings, a missed appointment or an unfortunate situation steal the joy and beauty from this day you have the opportunity to experience.

Think. Act. Grow.

Peace

Happiness

Compassion

Respect
