Recognize the Life Surrounding Us
Literally see it.
Did You?
Did you notice the way the sun rose this morning or see the way it set last night just as the moon was beginning to shine?
Did you see the movement of the clouds today and the way they gracefully flowed through the sky?
I try to as much as I can, but truthfully it’s not everyday.
I’ve found that by taking time out of my day to recognize the life that is surrounding me, to watch the sunset as dusk sets in, or watch heavy gray clouds prepare to release the water they’ve been carrying, I better recognize the life that is happening all around me; I better recognize the goodness, the love, and the abundance this Life brings.
The more I am able to see the goodness that Life bestows upon me day after day, the more I recognize the good things that are happening in my individual life.
Clear & Relaxed
For instance, when I take time out of my day to relax my mind, clear my spirit, and allow my heart to beat freely while witnessing a river flowing, or the sun rising, I see peace, I see harmony, I see Life.
Arising from that meditative state of awareness, I then have the ability to bring that Peace, Harmony and Life that I witnessed with me throughout my day.
As I first started doing this I began to see that the outer world reflects the same Peace, Harmony and Life that I’ve now fully embraced and found within myself.
(Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to go sit in nature to see the Goodness of Life that surrounds us. However, I do believe our connection with nature is a sacred bond and we should find as much time as we can to reacquaint ourselves with our Mother Earth).
Blind To The Harmony
Now what happens when we don’t see the good that surrounds us?
Well, this is where many people operate their lives from, including myself at times, especially during my first few years of adulthood.
I wasn’t looking at the good, instead I saw the bad.
I saw people struggling in my community, I saw people hurting others in the name of profit, I saw people disrespecting one another because they don’t believe in the same prophet. I even caught myself exploring dark caverns of my mind that helped to reinforce the bad that I was choosing to see.
James Allen wrote in, As A Man Thinketh,
“…the Great Law which is absolutely just, and which cannot, therefore, give good for evil, evil for good.”
If we are choosing to witness the bad things that happen day after day, without inviting in the beauty of life, we continue the cycle of bad – to worse – to unbearable.
But if we choose to witness the good in Life day after day, while still recognizing the bad things that happen but not becoming consumed by them, we color our world in the goodness that underlies all of Life.
Regardless of how the circumstances may be for you right now, it’s a powerful practice to recognize and embrace the good that surrounds us all, embracing the blessings of Life.
Recognizing the Beauty Around Us
Here are 3 key things we can do today to better recognize the good that surrounds us all:
#1 – Watch the trees sway from the wind, the clouds drift through the sky, and the stars illuminate the night. See the invisible forces at work. Feel the wind on your skin and know that that same wind carries pollen, carries seeds, carries the scent of food to insects, animals, and humans. Each time you feel a breeze, smile, you are a part of it all.
#2 – Observe all the different people you pass today and fully honor them as a living, breathing, human beings. Look into people’s eyes when speaking today and know that the same Power which enabled you to awake also allowed your fellow man and woman to awake. See the beauty of this Life. Look deep enough and you will see your connection with all.
#3 – Look at a world map and know that wherever you may be, you are one with all the people of the world. Know that this incredible earth is our true home. Grab a world map, close your eyes, and drop your finger down on the map. Wherever your finger lands, research about that place for a brief moment. You will see that regardless of where you may be in this moment, you are sharing Life with your brothers and sisters upon our great Mother Earth.
