7 Acts of Kindness We Can All Learn From

Kindness Revolution

We are a 3 days into the 7 Day Kindness Challenge and I hope that in your participation you’re continuing to realize how transformational your kindness truly is.

I was spending some time reflecting this week and realized that some of the greatest events in history are those that were centered in kindness, compassion and peace for all people involved.

It reminded me that our kindness is never wasted. When one truly moves with kindness there is no need for temples, prophets or complicated philosophy.

In the words of the Dalai Lama,

“There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy kindness.”

Kindness Changes the World

Looking back into the past we can see how essential kindness was in times of despair and hopelessness, both in our own lives and throughout the course of history.

As I look deeper into myself I can see how important it is for each of us, individually, to consciously act kind towards ourselves.

I have found in my own life that I can only give to another, what I have first found within myself.

Therefore, if we hope to see more kindness and peace in our world then we must first find that kindness and peace within ourselves.

Because we are about mid-way through the 7 Day Kindness Challenge I thought today would be the perfect time to share with you 7 Acts of Kindness that we can all learn from.

It’s my hope that at least one of these acts of kindness will inspire you today to go out and be the source of kindness in someone’s life (after you’re kind to yourself of course).

7 Acts of Kindness We Can All Learn From

Here are 7 Acts of Kindness that we could use to propel ourselves into new horizons of life.

Please read ahead knowing that nobody is perfect, but we can learn from everyone. Grasp the good, apply it to your life and discard anything that doesn’t align with your beliefs. The intention here is to inspire us all to be greater.

7 Acts of Kindness We Can All Learn From

#1 – I Have a Dream Speech – This incredible speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the greatest speeches I’ve heard thus far in life. He stood for kindness, equal rights and justice for all. We could all learn from the compassion and peace this man showed throughout his life. Speak the truth and speak kindly to all.

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed – we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.”

#2 – Compassion of Mother Teresa – This woman spent a large portion of her life caring for those who had no one. She spent her time helping orphans, the sick and young children feel compassion and love. She asked very little in return.

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

#3 – The Power of Non-Violence – Mahatma Gandhi stood peacefully against powerful nations and taught us all that the act of non-violence is more powerful than a gun. He also reminds us that we should spend our time uplifting our fellow man and women with peace and compassion.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

#4 – Putting Your Resources Towards a Good Cause – Bill and Melinda Gates are two of the richest people on our planet and they have dedicated a large amount of their resources to helping eradicate preventable diseases across our globe. Imagine if we all put our resources towards those things that brings more life to our brothers and sisters that we walk this Earth with.

“All lives have an equal value.”

#5 – The Underground Railroad – After being born into slavery and subjected to the cruel treatment in the United States by the rich slave owners for many years, Harriet Tubman eventually escaped the evil system and later became a hero. She helped African American slaves recognize the precious life within themselves by helping them escape the corrupt slave system. Her legacy lives on and is still taught in our schools to this day. Stand up for equal rights and justice.

“I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.”

#6 – Honoring Nature – John Muir was an influential man in the early 1900’s who spent his time advocating for the preservation of the natural wilderness, recognizing the importance it plays on our Earth. He helped to establish National Parks that were to be nature refuges free from clear cutting, mining and the destruction of their natural habitats. We could use more of this kindness towards nature today. Respect all life.

“When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.”

#7 – Giving Food to the Hungry – This final act of kindness is from my early years of life. During my upbringing we didn’t always have food in our fridge or pantry but fortunately, there were people and organizations that stood tall and helped my sisters, grandparents, mother and I during these difficult times with food for our stomachs. One of the organizations that gave us food, basically every month is the LDS Church. Though I am not a member of this religion, the kindness they showed to my family and I will remain with me forever.

“Kindness is a passport that opens doors and fashions friends. It softens hearts and molds relationships that can last lifetimes.”
