Greater Energy, Better Focus, Increased Strength
I remember when I first began my journey towards eating less meat and more fruits and vegetables.
It began about seven years ago when I first decided I would no longer allow pork into my body. This proved to be easier than I thought.
Over the course of the next year, I continued to educate myself about where our food comes from and slowly decided to give up eating beef but continued eating chicken, turkey and fish.
As the months passed and my knowledge grew about how meat was produced for consumption here in the states, I slowly backed away from chicken.
A few months later turkey.
Today, I enjoy a variety of fresh fruits and veggies. I do however, still eat seafood sporadically.
During this journey to my current eating habits, a lot of people close to me tried to deter me. Reminding me that I needed meat in my diet, that I need to eat more protein and that I couldn’t survive solely eating veggies and fruits.
Energy, Focus, Strength
What I discovered through this process was that as time passed, the urge for me to eat meat became less and less. This was primarily due to realizing what the animal looked like before it became a hamburger, fried chicken, or bacon on my plate.
Despite what others told me, consuming more natural, living foods such as fruits, vegetables and grains provided me with greater energy, more focus and increased strength.
One of the main things I’ve experienced is no longer feeling weighed down after eating.
This has been a wonderful decision I decided to embark on in my early 20’s.
More Protein and Deeper Connection
So what about all those people that told me that meat was essential for protein?
Well, as time has passed I found organic grains and vegetables that could provide just as much protein as any animal meat.
Not only do some of these alternatives provide more protein, but I’ve found that they’ve helped me establish a deeper connection with the Earth and with myself.
Instead of filling my body with crippled cows, chickens that can’t stand on their own feet and pigs that dwell in their own feces, I chose to eat food produced by the sun, from the soil of the Earth, strengthened by the water that flows across our globe.
What would you rather connect with, organic food or chemically filled meats from the slaughterhouse?
3 Healthy Additions You Can Add To Each Meal: Greater Energy, Focus & Strength
I by no means am trying to convert you to my eating habits, just simply trying to share my perspective.
Here are 3 Healthy Additions You Can Add To Each Meal:
#1 – Quinoa and Black Beans – Regardless if you consume meat or not, quinoa and black beans can be a great addition to any meal. Quinoa is a small grain that has over 15 grams of protein in each cup. Black beans fit under a “Superfood.” This is because beans not only provide a great source of protein but they are high in fiber, antioxidants and aid in disease prevention and healing as well. Add these things to your daily eating habits.
Here are a few awesome recipes:
#2 – Kale and Spinach – Our bodies love leafy greens. To begin, start by replacing one meal a week with a healthy salad. Be sure to include kale, spinach and arugula. Leafy greens can provide us with many nutrients that our typical food lacks. Specifically, calcium, antioxidants, vitamins, helps with high blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as improves your skin and prevents a host of diseases. Here is a great way to begin consuming more of these leafy greens.
#3 – Bananas, Blueberries and Brazilian Nuts – Consume one of these 3 B’s a day. Banana’s aid in digestion, strengthen your blood, prevent diabetes and helps protect you from heart attack and stroke. Blueberries fit under the “Superfood” category. They improve your brain quality, help keep a healthy heart and reduce body fat. Brazilian nuts protect your body from free radicals, provides natural protein as well as a provide a vast amount of antioxidants and vitamins.
- Consume one of these a B’s a day.
Gratitude
Be grateful for your ability to fill your being, your vessel, with food and nutrients that can truly strengthen you.
Empower your cells, organs and your being each morsel of food you eat.
Be grateful that food can be used to strengthen your body, provide you with greater energy, heal you of sickness and provide you with more focus to spend your time and energy on the things that bring joy to your heart.
