The Best Year Yet

Imagine an exceptional painter holding a fresh brush in their hand. Their easel is filled with every color imaginable and the canvas in front of them is blank, new, pure.

In the room this painter stands in there are finished canvases that line the walls. Some of these paintings are vibrant, emanating a prosperous feeling, while others are dark and filled with despair.

As this painter stands there, staring at the blank canvas, he picks up his new brush, dips it in the paint and creates.

In 2016, you are the painter of your life.

The year ahead is a fresh canvas you can color any way you’d like.

The paintings that fill this room are the years you’ve already experienced, some beautiful, some average, some dark. In the same way that the painter won’t be dictated by the paintings of the past, you and I don’t have to color this new year the same way we colored the days of yesterday.

How will you color this year filled with limitless possibilities?

Questions To Make 2016 The Best Year Yet

Answer some of these questions to help you prep for your painting this year:

  • If 2016 was the best year yet, what would this year look like by December 31st, 2016?
  • What would your day-to-day life look like in 2016 if you made this year the best year yet?
  • How would your inner world have to change to make 2016 the best year yet?
  • Who would be affected by you becoming your best, honoring your gifts and maximizing your experience in 2016?
  • What would you do during your spare time if 2016 was the best year yet?
  • What is stopping you from making this a reality?

Mapping Out Your Direction

As the inspirational speaker Zig Ziglar used to say, “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.”

If you don’t have a target, you’ll never know what to aim at or work towards. This is similar to the painter who just throws paint on the canvas, oblivious to what he is hoping to create, or like a boat that leaves the harbor with no direction and is at the mercy of the wind, waves and current.

This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time in the stillness of your being and envision the direction you’d like to take your life in 2016.

Take a moment and write out your top 5 goals for 2016. If you have already written your goals, then take time to review them.

Don’t just read them, see them. This will help you stay your course as reality sets in and you get swayed throughout the months ahead.

As Stephen Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind.”

3 Keys to Make 2016 The Best Year Yet

#1 – Write A Purpose Statement For 2016 – Dedicate yourself to things that bring you to life, things that inspire you and make your life worth living. What is your purpose this year? Too many of us do things we don’t like, this year, believe in you and let your passions lead to your purpose. Spend each day making your purpose statement become a reality.

#2 – Build Your Inner World In 2016 – It’s said that we can only become what we believe ourselves to be. It’s also been said every outer experience flows forth from within. This year cultivate your inner world by building your spiritual practice. Each day set time aside for meditating, praying, and mindful living, and recognize the endless stream of abundance, power and potential that flows within. Direct this energy so it aligns with your purpose and the goals you have set for the year.

#3 – Replace Destructive Habits In 2016 – We all know we have things that need to be released to soar into our highest and best. Be willing to spend time with yourself and identify the things you feel are holding you back and then consciously replace them. This could be destructive habits, toxic thoughts, or negative actions that are keeping you stuck. Remember, this year can only be as great as you allow it. As the painter in your life, you must create from the inside out.
