The Spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.

Becoming the light in a sea of darkness. Radiating peace and equality while surrounded by an army of hatred.  Sharing truth, hope, inspiration and love to the oppressed and downtrodden.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy continues to ripple through our world today.

I recall when I first moved to Atlanta, I could feel the inspiration and empowerment that Martin Luther King Jr. helped to spread through this city over five decades ago.

To this day I make it a goal each month to drive through the neighborhood Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in.

When I’m driving down Auburn Avenue, just outside the city of Atlanta I envision young Martin Luther King Jr. a running through the streets of the Old Fourth Ward.

Who would’ve known back then that this average, young boy would grow up to be such an influential figure?

A few weeks ago I was driving through this historic place, envisioning the young Martin Luther King Jr. and had an illuminating insight.

The insight was this:

We all have the opportunity to share our light in the same way Martin Luther King Jr. did.

What I mean is though we all have different backgrounds, the majority of us still ran around our neighborhoods in the same way young Martin Luther King Jr. did.

We all went through adolescence, awaking to the ills of the world and the prejudices passed down throughout the generations. Most of us around this time felt an inner pulling towards making a positive difference even if it’s in the smallest way in the same way as Martin Luther King Jr. did.

The vast majority of us have reached adulthood and continue to have that inner calling, that inner invitation that’s encouraging us to step into the fullness of our being.

Those that share their compassion, peace and respect with the world, while following their inner passions can shine in the same way Martin Luther King Jr. did.

You are it.

You can send the same ripples of peace, equality and compassion out into our world.

My Tribute To Martin Luther King Jr.

Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr., I to have a dream. I’d like to share this dream today, MLK Jr. Day.

Let us develop a kind of DANGEROUS UNSELFISHNESS.
